CBS News: Chinese International Hacking Targeting Critical Infrastructure | MITRE

 

During a brief interview on CBS News, MITRE CTO Charles Clancy commented, “Over the last decade, we have seen a dramatic increase in Chinese cyberattacks against the United States. But to be clear, the pattern has been hacking into US companies, US government agencies, and research institutions to steal information. What we’re seeing (now) is a shift from just hacking with the goal of stealing information to hacking with the goal of being able to exploit and destroy infrastructure.”

In regard to the hacks from the Chinese company I-Soon, “the information didn’t show widespread attacks against the US directly but targeting other Southeast Asian countries. This is an opportunity for the US to engage with those countries to highlight the risks that they face and present a more united international cyber defensive front against China.”
